Cristina Gamón crafts swirling, ethereal abstract landscapes through a mixed-media approach. She pours acrylic paints of varying viscosities and integrates raw pigments onto sheets of laser-cut plexiglass. These plexiglass sheets are mounted on traditional wooden stretcher bars, which remain visible beneath the surface and offer structural support to the painted compositions.

Gamón received her Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of San Carlos, Valencia, and in 2011, she was the youngest female artist to be awarded the Gold Medal for the BMW National Painting First Prize by H. M. Queen Sofía, becoming the youngest artist to receive this award, among her many other accolades. In addition, she has completed residencies in Asia, Europe, and even the Arctic.

    Minyoung Suk

Minyoung Suk is a Korean artist whose work explores the interplay of time, space, and introspection through meticulous layering techniques. She earned her M.F.A. in Fabric Design from Ewha Womans University in 2009 and a B.F.A. in Printmaking from Chugye University for the Arts in 2002. Suk’s practice is deeply influenced by her fascination with architectural forms and the dynamic relationships between visible and invisible spaces, inviting viewers to engage in themes of meditation, introspection, and thoughtful reflection.

Through her exploration of “stacking,” Suk generates spaces that transcend the visible, imbuing them with depth and narrative. Her works are designed to evolve with their surroundings, offering viewers a multisensory experience that extends beyond the boundaries of the physical. By engaging the subconscious and drawing attention to the interplay of angles, location, and perspective, Suk’s art reveals stories of spaces both seen and unseen, urging viewers to rediscover the beauty of thoughtful presence.

  • Relinquishing Control - The balance between intention and chance

Cristina Gamón’s relationship with abstraction is deeply rooted in her embrace of spontaneity and the organic flow of materials, mirroring nature’s inherent unpredictability. By allowing paints and pigments to interact freely, she relinquishes control to the medium, inviting natural processes like gravity, viscosity, and fluid dynamics to shape her work. This approach creates dynamic compositions that reflect the delicate balance between intention and chance, echoing the essence of movement and transformation found in the natural world.

"When you leave your prejudices and throw away your rules, and allow yourself to accept something new to your eyes as valid… It is then that you find out you can be more than what you predict, you would surprise yourself with your own growth. Abstraction has become an endless path of investigation for me, one that I feel comfortable doing.” - Cristina Gamón

  • MEDITATION THROUGH METICULATION

Minyoung Suk echoes the rhythms and fluidity of nature through a deliberate and meditative approach, contrasting spontaneity with meticulous precision. Her process involves painting, pasting, layering, peeling, and constructing spaces that evolve over time, reflecting the gradual and contemplative pace of natural cycles. She meticulously places finishing touches on the piece, through sewing stiches through the fabric and applying the final top layers of paint.

  • MIRRORS OF NATURE

Differing from Gamón's deep rooted relationship with intuition and chance, Suk’s work is rooted in introspection and repetition. Although their processes are different, both artists imbue their art with a sense of harmony and balance. The ebb and flow of Gamon's resin and pigment match the visual pathways created by Suk's brushstrokes, mirroring the subtle, measured flow of nature’s own transformations.
