  • Like many Venezuelan artists of his generation, Margulis was shaped by the emergence of Geometric abstractionism and Kinetic art. Early in his career, he was influenced by the works of Venezuelan kinetic artist Jesús Soto and Russian constructivist sculptor Naum Gabo. Gabo's "Linear Constructions in Space" series, which explores the creation of volume and space using fine threads on a framework, had a particular impact on Margulis.

  • Western science and Eastern spirituality have played a signifcant role in his pursuit of integrated knowledge. Magulis identifies himself as a wisdom seeker who connects ideas from unconnected felds of information. His tri-dimensional sculptures clearly refect, in formal and conceptual ways, his interest in how scientifc discovery transforms our philosophy and forces our perspectives.

  • With each sculpture, Margulis effortlessly blurs the lines between art and mathematics, captivating viewers with dynamic compositions that defy expectations. As you move around the sculpture, the lines shift and colors change, and the artwork becomes entirely new. This interactive aspect, according to Margulis, creates an emotional response, which is fundamental to the essence of his artwork. Each viewer approaches the piece with a different experience, perception, and/or feeling that gives the work a new meaning, a new existence.

  • His works are made with acrylic glass sheets harboring diferent levels of translucency, which are fixed to painted or printed surfaces. They function as light traps or secret blueprints. Their designs can only be fully revealed by applying or “pouring” light into them, and therefore, the light becomes a sort of “ink” that reveals the design and produces multiple illusions.

  •  Margulis is primarily focused on creating geometric shapes designed to change the viewer's perspective. He is guided by the philosophical belief that everything in life has multiple layers of narrative, spatial perceptions, and varying levels of empathy and diversity. He draws strong parallels between the human experience and the engagement with his artwork. Much like life, his work offers a multitude of experiences that shift the viewer's perception of reality.
